One of the longest running fundraisers we’ve come across recently is The Junior League of Richmond’s creative and intellectually stimulating Book and Author Event, which has taken top honors as one of the League’s most successful revenue-generating initiatives for 70 years. The day-long literary extravaganza, which is open to the public at prices ranging from $30 to $700, is held every Spring and represents the culmination of a year’s worth of work by a designated committee. In some years it has brought in more than $50,000.
Featuring inspiring, humorous and educational talks and readings by many of the best-selling authors of the past few decades, the Book and Author Event has welcomed Jen Lancaster, James Swanson, Cokie Roberts, Carole Radziwill, Sam Beall, Abraham Verghese, Marcia Clark, Jasmin Darznik, Karen Russell, Adriana Trigiani, David Balducci, Eben Alexander, Mary Higgins Clark, Pat Conroy and Robert Frost, among many others.
